Bacterial enzymes attack the pollutants

Researchers at the Chemistry and Biology of Metals laboratory are studying bacteria capable of breaking down toxic organic pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). They are interested in dioxygenases that catalyze the oxidation of PAHs. Their work can be used to design environmental biosensors.
